Professor's appeal rejected;

NEWARK, Del.-The move by the University of Delaware to dismiss Richard Aumiller, an open gay on the faculty who is advisor to the university's gay organization, has moved one step forward in the intricate grievance procedure.

Following notification in early January of the dismissal by Dr. Edward A. Trabant, president of the University. Aumiller filed a grievance with the Theater Department, which was subsequently rejected.

Aumiller then filed an appeal with Dr. Helen Gouldner, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, on January 12. Dr. Gouldner also rejected Aumiller's appeal, stating on January 27 that "The matters that you raise are not grievable."

Aumiller then immediately

filed an appeal with the Committee of Review of the College of Arts and Sciences, where the matter now rests. The Committee of Review, composed of six faculty members appointed by the University, is scheduled to decide on Aumiller's appeal in early March..

Its decision, however, is not final and will serve only to advise. Should the appeal be rejected by the Committee of Review, Aumiller will then appeal to the university's provost, Dr. L. Leon Campbell.

Should that appeal fail, Aumiller may then appeal to the five-member University Appeals Committee, which serves in an advisory capacity to President Trabant, Aumiller told the Gay News he "hardly expects the

Ultimately, Aumiller expects to appeal the dismissal to the American Arbitration Association, an independent arbitrating agency, for "binding arbitration."
